Our objectives are:
To work to advance equality, uphold human rights, uphold the administration and enforcement of the law, and advance the moral and ethical development of the community for the benefit of the public by:
a) promoting the rights and responsibilities of Indigenous People(s) to practice their customs
related to sexual and reproductive health, parenting, midwifery, and birth work;
b) promoting sexual and reproductive health care that is effective, accessible, non-
discriminatory, trauma-informed, and culturally appropriate for Indigenous People(s); and
c) promoting sexual and reproductive health care that is consistent with the Aboriginal and
Treaty Rights affirmed in section 35 of the Constitution of Canada, the Canadian Charter of
Rights and Freedoms and other human rights laws in force in Canada, the United Nations
Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights and other international human rights laws and instruments applicable to Canada; and
d) doing so through the following activities:

raising awareness regarding sexual and reproductive health and rights and barriers to their equal enjoyment, and making recommendations to the public, governments, educators, regulators, and service providers to promote their equal enjoyment;

developing partnerships that advance the development and delivery of equitable sexual and reproductive health care, parenting, midwifery, and birth work services;
-
providing consulting, training, and advisory services to health care providers and the organizations and institutions that educate, train, and regulate health care providers;
-
engaging in policy analysis and advocacy that is publicly available or made directly available to policy-makers;
-
participation in litigation, inquiries, hearings, inquests, and other legal, judicial, or quasi-judicial proceedings; and
-
funding, developing, and participating in programming, services, and events related to the equal enjoyment of sexual and reproductive health, services, and rights,
with a primary focus on midwifery services by and for Indigenous People(s) in Canada.
To promote health and advance education by:
a) funding and conducting research on the subjects of sexual and reproductive health,
parenting, midwifery, and birth work, and making such research publicly available;
b) developing and providing classes, training, and educational materials on the subjects of
sexual and reproductive health, parenting, midwifery, and birth work for the public and for
students and health care providers;
c) developing, funding, and participating in workshops, seminars, panels, conferences,
gatherings, and other events that have an educational function and that promote the
provision of effective sexual and reproductive health services;
d) providing publicly available scholarships, bursaries, grants, and other forms of financial
assistance to people undertaking their education in the field of midwifery and birth work, to
be used for costs of post-secondary education or training under the supervision of qualified
midwives and birth workers; and
e) providing prizes, awards, and other similar forms of recognition to students and health
care providers in the field of midwifery and birth work to encourage academic and
professional excellence,
with a primary focus on promoting and advancing education regarding the sexual and reproductive health of Indigenous People(s) in Canada, and on promoting and advancing education regarding midwifery by and for Indigenous People(s) in Canada.
To promote health by:
a) funding effective sexual and reproductive health services for the public delivered in
accordance with applicable quality and safety standards;
b) promoting access to effective sexual and reproductive health services by the public
through the development and distribution of publicly available resources regarding such
services and referrals to service providers; and
c) the development and promotion of opportunities for mentorship, learning, discussion, peer support, and collaboration amongst sexual and reproductive health providers for the purpose of enhancing the quality of health care delivery,
with a primary focus on midwifery services by and for Indigenous People(s) in Canada.
